Investments & Treasure

On a recent The Trinity MMO Show, SirJahzeal, Solomon_SK and I were discussing a recent PAX Online panel about the future of MMOs. SirJahzeal mentioned his son going back to Fortnite since he has invested so much into it. SirJahzeal did the investing but his son felt invested. All of us have invested hours and money into a game that we have a hard time putting down. That investment even overrides the shiny new game that has peeked our interest.

Check this out. If something is free, it's easily tossed aside and quickly forgotten. If it's something we worked hard for, we will go back to it time and time again even if it is now obsolete. We invest time and money into something and we don't want to give it up. There is comfort there too. And if the game is still solid we will continue playing it also.

This investment discussion should lead us to check on what we have invested in? Where is your treasure? Where is your heart?

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21 ESV

Treasure is not evil nor is it bad to have it. Check out these treasures: God, family, friends, ministry. How about wealth, fame, glory, job, material things? That list has some pretty good treasures and things we should treasure. The list also has items that tend to make us cringe and know that treasure can corrupt us. And rust. And be destroyed.

No one says that money is evil. It's the love of money and making money your idol. Same with treasures.

If you have invested in God, you will treasure time with God and keep going back to Him.

If you have invested in family, you will treasure time with family and keep going back to them.

If you have invested in friends, you will treasure time with friends and keep going back to them.

If you have invested in ministry, you will treasure time serving others and keep going back to it.

If you have invested in a job, you will treasure time with the job and keep going back to your job.

If you have invested in wealth, you will treasure time with wealth and keep going back to it.

If you have invested in fame, you will treasure time with fame and keep going back to fame.

If you have invested in material things, you will treasure material things and keep going back to find more material things.

Do you notice a pattern? That is why Jesus was so adamant on where your treasure is, your heart is also.

Look at your life and check to see where you have invested.

Stop. Review your treasures and make some changes. You will never regret it.
