Where are today's heroes? | Christian Living Bible Study

Every generation lives in unprecedented times. We may feel like ours is different from prior eras or that our ancestors had it better. We have all heard about the 'good ole days' or 'simpler times' or the 'golden age of <insert whatever>'? How traditions are being destroyed and that kids these days don't have any understanding of what we went through during our childhoods when we had to watch movies on a VHS tape and music on a flat vinyl disk.

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

We all wish that it not happened in our time. Our parents, our grandparents, our ancestors wish it did not happen in their time, too. Wars, economic downturns, riots, pandemics. You name it. Since it is new to us, it is what makes it unique to us. There is nothing new under the sun.

What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9

There is peace in knowing that we are not alone and that history shows us that nothing new is under the sun and that our ancestors experienced their own unprecedented event.

How are we going to deal with it like our parents and grandparents? Where are the heroes of our day to take on today's challenge?

Matthew West song titled "Do Something" has these words of lamination:

I woke up this morning

Saw a world full of trouble now

I thought, "How'd we ever get so far down?"

And "How's it ever gonna turn around?"

So, I turned my eyes to Heaven,

I thought, "God, why don't You do something?"

Well, I just couldn't bear the thought of

People living in poverty,

Children sold into slavery.

The thought disgusted me.

So, I shook my fist at Heaven,

I said, "God, why don't You do something?"

Now the words that echo in my head and repeat to others. Words that should echo in your head too.

He said, "I did." Yeah. "I created you."

Let me repeat that. God said: I CREATED YOU! Look in the mirror. You are the hero. We are the hero. God created us to be the hero.

Just as Frodo was not looking to be a hero, he became a hero. Just as our ancestors were not looking to be heroes, they became heroes. We are not looking to be heroes, but we must become heroes. Not a hero looking for accolades and rewards but the unsung hero.

We are unique and there is no one just like us as we are made in the image of God. What are we going to do about this unprecedented time? How do we become the hero and rise up and overcome?

I can't answer that for you. You have to ask God about that. God is in control. God will use you and me.

"God has already solved all the problems. We just need to catch up to him." - JeanneDArcc

Time for heroes to step up.

Start every day brewing

over the Word of God

Morning Brew is a Christian living blog and community that encourages followers of Jesus to start every morning brewing over the Word of God, rejoicing in the Lord, learning more about who He is, and thanking Him for His salvation, provisions and blessings. We are here to grow in our faith and relationship with God every day.

Through our Bible study and Christian living blog, Christian gaming community, women's Bible study and fellowship group, reading plans, and other groups and offerings we strive to build one another up as the body of Christ and edify one another by sharing in what God teaches and reveals to each of us on our faith journeys.

Our Bible study blog covers a multitude of topics relevant to Christian living and practical Biblical application. We focus on deep topical studies, Bible book overviews and  Bible translation studies in our God's Word category. Godly Living is all about living life as a believer in Christ and features categories for everyday Christian living, hobbies, food, and Christian homemaking. Within Godly Abiding we dive into Biblical application within a Godly family, self care, prayer and living an orderly life.
